Mission Statement
The mission of the Lisbon Community School District School Counseling department is to provide a developmental, comprehensive, ethical, and data-driven school counseling program to all students. The school counseling program collaborates with students, school personnel, parents, and community members to provide a school climate and deliver programs which assist all students, regardless of differences or special needs, to develop to their greatest potential in the areas of academics, career, and social-emotional growth. The program evolves to ensure that all students can graduate “college and career ready”, with skills and knowledge which will allow them to become responsible, life-long learners capable of productive and fulfilling lives in our society of global and technical connection.
At the secondary level, the counselor is part of the faculty. They assist students with social, academic and career development. In addition, individual and group counseling sessions are offered. The counselor at the secondary level organize and assist in the administration of a testing and assessment program for both college and career-bound students.

Bio
Mrs. Shana Willenbring is the full time 7-12 School Counselor at Lisbon. She lives in Dyersville with her husband Joe and their son Isaiah. Mrs. Willenbring earned her undergraduate degree from College of St. Benedict and her Masters in School Counseling from the University of Iowa. She started her educational career developing and running after school programs as a social worker in the Waterloo Community Schools. She has been the secondary counselor at Lisbon for 16 years. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, being outdoors, and traveling when she can. She is excited to be working at Lisbon and is looking forward to a great year!
Services:
Individual Student Planning
Assisting students in establishing personal goals and developing future plans.
Coordinating ongoing systematic activities.
School Counseling Curriculum
Providing developmentally appropriate structured lessons available to all students in kindergarten through eighth grade.
Organizing and providing group and whole classroom activities.
Responsive Services
Intervening in response to students’ immediate needs and conditions.
Providing prevention strategies to meet students’ future needs
Strategies may include
Individual counseling
Small group counseling
Consultation with parents, teachers and other educators
Referrals to other school support services or community resources
Psycho-education; intervention and advocacy at the systemic level
Developing confidential relationships with students
Working to improve school climate and culture
System support
Establishing, maintaining, and enhancing the district-wide school counseling program
Providing professional development, consultation, collaboration and supervision for program management and operations.
